Anime Festival - Central, Bangkok
Schoolgirl as an Anime rabbit???
Today I walked around the Central Bangkok shopping mall looking for a good place to eat (Pizza Pizza ended up as the restaurant of choice). As I was leaving Siam for the BTS (skytrain), there were a number of photographers snapping away towards the right. The plaza below was filled with a number of people dressed up as anime characters posing for cameras and walking around. Naturally, I also decided to head down to the plaza to get some nice close-ups and talk with the students. Previously, I had assumed that the people dressed up as various anime characters were theatrical students (in the past, I had been told this was the case). However, upon talking with several of the characters themselves - and some of the photographers - I discovered that the majority of the people were simply kids who had purchased or made costumes of some of their favorite anime characters.
Although somewhat familiar with the anime world, I'd never heard of Hatsune Miku until I began to see some posters advertising her coming to Bangkok on different days to sing. Later on, while trolling Youtube, I discovered a "Kid's React" video by the FineBros regarding this unknown entity called "Hatsune Miku" - you can watch the full episode here if you so desire. In any case, "Hatsune Miku" is not a person, but a computer singing synthesizer - and the voice of "Hatsune Miku" is entirely computerized (although roughly based on the voice of a Japanese actress). Would you go to a concert held by a virtual persona that appeared either in holographic form or on a screen?? I'd find it rather weird myself to go to such a concert :p. I mean, you could never even meet the performer! In any case, some more pictures from the "Comic Con" festival are below.

While Thailand's best-known animals may be elephants, it also has a considerable number of crocodile farms. Several weekends ago the weather cleared up and the day didn't seem as hot as usual so I decided to head on over to the Samutprakan Crocodile Farm to check out the 100,000-plus crocs the farm is reported to maintain on its premises.

[Left to right] 1. The performer placed the tips from the audience into the crocodile's mouth, and then proceeded to remove the money from the crocodile's mouth for the amusement 2. During the performance, the elephants occasionally walked around the lower perimeter of the seating area looking for donations. When the elephant received money, it put the money in the trainer's pocket. When the elephant received food, it ate it. 3. A lil' tot handing a banana to a hungry elephant 4. Crocodiles sunning themselves near the walkways 5. The painted walkways around the crocodile pond.
