Happy Lunar New Year!

新年快樂! Xin nian kuai le! Happy Chinese New Year! Or, as it is celebrated across Asia, a Happy Lunar New Year to you!

Thailand also celebrates the Lunar New Year, with a large number of the population tracing their ancestry to the southern Chinese province of Yunan. The Thai Chinese, as they refer to themselves, often hand out the hóngbāo (red envelopes) to younger family members. Inside these envelopes is money in some amount ending in an even digit.

Lunar New Year is time for a family reunion and large, sumptuous meals! Some hotels along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok set off fireworks on the evening of the Lunar New Year in celebration. A great way to top off a meal of Peking duck and Walnut shrimp!
